No news is good news. Or is it?
Big Tech greed and corporate takeovers are strangling local news, and the indie news providers that bring you the news you need are struggling to keep the lights on.
When these providers are forced to close down, it means that you know less, understand less, and can do less.
And that's bad news.
Indie News Week is the UK's first campaign to celebrate the unsung heroes of the country's indie news sector.
More than 40 indie providers are holding events in June to connect with their communities and bridge the gap between journalist and audience.
From Shetland to Eastbourne, Belfast to Bethesda and Norwich, participants will get to demonstrate to the communities they serve the value of news that is independently owned, locally produced.
More than 20 providers will also participate in the Indie News Fund, a £50k match funding pot to double money they raise over the course of the campaign.
As long as you have an indie news provider covering your community, be it geographic or identity-based, you can stay informed and empowered.
You can help keep the lights on for these providers.
So, if you want to stay in the know, find your indie news provider and subscribe or donate.
And if you'd like to get to know your indie local news provider, find an event near you.
